Find Your Family

The Finding Family initiative aims to reconnect descendants of Australia’s Blackbirding trade through the sorting of country-wide data. This may include ship logs, birth certificates, death certificates and marriage certificates that will be held in a database that can be navigated using our powerful search tool.

Application Process

If you’d like to participate in the Finding Family initiative, please follow the application process listed below:

    1. Complete a Finding Family Request Form. By completing this form, we will have the necessary information needed to trace your ancestry.
    2. Fill out this form to the best of your ability with the knowledge you have of your family history.
    3. After completing the form, you will receive an email confirmation that we have received your Finding Family Request Form.
    4. We will review the information you have provided and try to find connections to others. 
    5. In the case where we find connections, we will email your results to you.

Searching for Family

If you'd like to find out more about your family history, you can  search through our Finding Family Database. 

  1. Go to the Finding Family Database page. 
  2. [Optional] Select the filters you'd like to search under. 
  3. Type in key words related to your search.
  4. Results containing or related to your key words will appear.
