Our Supporters

Dear Supporters,

On behalf of Australian South Sea Islanders – Port Jackson (ASSIPJ) honorary patron Ms Shireen Malamoo and our board we would like to thank community advocates for their support towards the advancement of Australian South Sea Islander (ASSIs) history, stories and culture. Your shared vision, skill and courage to change the narrative to include Australia’s Blackbirding history has seen a raised a global consciousness for our uncelebrated heroes. They gave their lives in establishing Australia’s economy, namely the 60,000 Sugar Slaves stolen from over eighty islands of Vanuatu and Solomon’s.

To our First Nations communities, families, allies and knowledge keepers thank you for receiving our forebears across communities during their first arrival in the 1800s which is maintained through to today’s societies as we strive for equal rights and social justice for our collective communities.

ASSI-PJ express gratitude to our Commonwealth, State and local governments, agencies, community organisations, leaders, universities, academics, artists and schools for embracing the need for self-determination and the truth telling process.

The international community, heritage institutions and volunteers thank you for your consciousness and showing action to learn share and see the commonality across our struggles and sharing with interested community and forums. Our collective work adds value to a global memory of social justice and highlights a truth for what is historically known as the forgotten people in Australia.
